Fathers In An Alien World

After "The Fall," the HOME became an important place to discover the value of people, relationships, and God. Fathers are key players to creating this kind of family environment and this Sunday we will explore some practical ways to reflect the character of God in our homes. Brian Rykaczewski, Director Of Children's Ministries, presents the message "Fathers In An Alien World."

Says Who? Make Me

Somewhere along the way, most of us become convinced that if we disagree with a rule or regulation then we're free to disobey it. We live life with the general notion that we should be able to do what we want, when we want, with no one to answer to. However, as we'll discover, when you choose to disregard authority, there is more at stake than is readily evident.

What's Really Important

Last week, the leadership shared some accomplishments of the last couple years, as well as some of the challenges in the relatively short history of HOPE CCM. In this message, we continue our journey as we look at several parables that directly impact our focus moving forward. The three
parables are: The Parable of the Lost Sheep; The Parable of the Lost Coin, and The Parable of the Prodigal Son. (Luke Chapter 15)

Part 3, Obey

Simple, Part Three - Obey

The church often mistakes Christian obedience as the first step in the Christian life. As a result, for many people the Christian faith becomes a rule-based religion. Instead, the Scriptures reveal that Jesus' initial invitation is to follow him. He invites us to follow him until we begin believing that he is indeed who he says he is. This belief that God loves us and has the best in store for us, then, becomes the reason we obey.

Part 2, Believe

Simple, Part Two - Believe

Jesus' initial invitation to his disciples was a simple one: Follow me. He invited them to watch and listen to his interactions with his heavenly Father and with others. In time, however, those who followed Jesus began to discover God's character through Jesus Christ. In that discovery they found themselves drawn to take a second simple step: Believe.

Part 1, Follow

Simple, Part One - Follow

There is a common misconception that the church is a gathering place for saintly, perfect people. Moreover, some think that being a Christian means observing a set of rules or commandments. The reality is that the Christian life is about a relationship with Jesus Christ. At the heart of that relationship is an invitation that Jesus extends to people from all experiences of life: "Follow me."

Good Friday - Paradox in Compassion

GOOD FRIDAY is one of the most paradoxical holidays on the Christian calendar. But the Bible is full of sharp contrasts that help us to understand the depth of God's love and the extent to which He saved us. Good Friday was, by all earthly standards, a horrible day. . . for Jesus, his followers, and his mother, especially. But what we see and hear from the dying lips of Jesus is nothing short of wonderful, as he makes arrangements for his mother, Mary, to become part of the family of John, the disciple whom Jesus loved.

Love Hurts

The message of Love Hurts focuses on one of the greatest misunderstandings of our day. Most of us are familiar with the "love chapter" in the Bible. We've heard it over and over at weddings. But how many of us can live up to its great ideals? Not only does 1 Corinthians 13 teach us what love is; it also teaches us what love is not. And sometimes knowing how we ought to love is not the same as actually doing it; the truth is, sometimes love hurts.

Harmony of Jesus' Birth

So many things can go wrong with the birth of a child. From personal experience, the miracle of even just a natural human birth is contrasted against the miracle of Jesus' birth which was predicted hundreds (even thousands) of years before His birth. Using just a small sampling of prophecies surrounding Jesus' birth, the probability of all the prophecies coming true in the person of Jesus is amazing. It just goes to show that Jesus is who the prophecies predicted and who He said He was.

But this isn’t a simple book—it’s a collection of ancient documents that tell the story of a loving Father who seeks to redeem his children. It’s a story we are still part of today. And whether you’re a skeptic or a believer, you’ll find that the influence and relevance of this incredible compilation of writings seems 2G2BT (too good to be true).

"Ding"

Text: Part One - “Ding”

In a meeting. At dinner. On the golf course. No matter when or where you hear the familiar "ding" on your cell phone, a text message gets your immediate attention. You're compelled to pull the phone out of your pocket and read it. But what if God sent you a text message? In this introductory message to this three-part series, Dave Adams presents how important it is to read God’s text message to us: The Bible.

It Takes Three

As long as you continue to place expectations on your spouse you have a debt/debtor relationship that will crowd out love and intimacy. In order to experience marriage as God designed it you must transform your expectations. Your big "I" must become small "i" and join Jesus together with your spouse to become a big "US."

Putting Your "I" Out

Expectations in marriage create a debt/debtor relationship that resembles more of a contract between two parties than a covenant between two people. The result of this is that your spouse feels like they never measure up. The solution is adding a third person to your marriage. That person is the Lord Jesus.

Whom Do You Fear?

After Saul met Jesus on the road to Damascus, the scattered believers eventually shifted their focus on the Lord; experiencing peace, comfort in the Holy Spirit, and in growth. “Then the church throughout Judea, Galilee and Samaria enjoyed a time of peace. It was strengthened; and encouraged by the Holy Spirit, it grew in numbers, living in the fear of the Lord.” (Acts 9:31 NIV)

A Better Question

Who is Jesus? It’s the question that shrinks all other questions. And your answer will determine the validity of your doubts and hesitations about Christ. When you reject Christianity, you aren’t merely rejecting a moral code or a belief system—you are rejecting a person, Jesus Christ, the living Savior. In this final part of the series, Andy prompts non-believers to ask the question, “Who are you, Lord?”

Undeniable

You don’t have to understand everything to believe in something. In so many areas of life, we believe without hesitation. Yet when it comes to faith, we’re reluctant to jump in with unresolved questions. But, often, understanding follows faith. And what you learn on the other side can’t be denied. After all, it’s personal.

Coming to Terms

What happens when you choose to let God reveal Himself on His conditions, not yours? One man in the Bible did just that. From Abraham, we learn we’ll never be able to overcome our natural questions and doubts until we approach God on His terms. Because the truth is, salvation begins with God. He made the first move.

A New Approach

The story about your heart starts with your head. Sometimes, we block the pathway to faith in Christ with all types of questions and doubts. But most people don't become Christians because their questions were answered. In fact, those doubts don't always disappear – they just become smaller. Somewhere along the way, Christians choose to know God more than the answers to all of their questions.

In the book of Ecclesiastes, the Preacher, declares "Vanity of vanities! All is vanity." But he doesn't leave us hopeless and meaningless. Solomon, directs our attention to the fact that even after living a life of wealth, power, position, and pleasures, God is in control. And what he concludes, when all has been heard, is:

Fear God and keep His commandments, because this applies to every person. For God will bring every act to judgment, everything which is hidden, whether it is good or evil.

1 Hopealonians Pt. 5 – Learning to Please God

Now that the Thessalonians are following Jesus, they should continue to walk in obedience to God's Word and commit their bodies to lives of holiness. Paul asks and urges the new believers at Thesalonica to live as set apart ones by continuing in the teaching of Paul in the Lord Jesus, and abstain from sexual promiscuity.

1 Hopealonians Pt. 4

Paul has written a letter to the young believers at Thessalonica sharing how much he longed to be with them. But when circumstances prevented that from happening, he sent Timothy to check on their progress in the Lord. Upon Timothy's return, he only had a positive and encouraging report to bring back to Paul and Silas.

Sometimes, there's no substitute for having face-to-face contact with the people you love. But through a commitment to keeping in communication and through prayer, we can bring those far away close as we grow in the Lord.

i See

Change involves pain. Sometimes what starts out as planned, takes some unexpected challenges.

The people that the writer to the Hebrews is writing have been having second thoughts about this new "religion" that is causing pain, persecution, and alienation from their very way of life. But the writer encourages these Jewish followers of Jesus Christ to "hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful. And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds. Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another-and all the more as you see the Day approaching. (Hebrews 10:23-25)

Craving Faith: Introduction

While most of us say we have faith in God, many place their faith in their own efforts to please Him or to eventually "save them." But saving faith, or craving faith, according to the Bible is contrary to the world's definition of faith. While the world puts faith in the same category of sincerity, passion and "religious" upbringing, the Bible puts it simply as receiving a gift. It is not as a result of working towards being "worthy" or "sincere", but simply in resting in the finished work and person of Jesus Christ.
